On "Thirst"
I really enjoyed this story. The very first sentence had me hooked. It was interesting to see her perspective on how she used to justify her actions even though she knew that the drugs and alcohol were hurting her. Lamott's tone and voice were also engaging and made me believe everything she had to say. She had a friendly "real person" way of speaking.
On "The Aunties"
This one I loved! I can say that I know just how she felt in this piece. Perhaps I have not totally come to love every part of my body as she has, but there is so much truth in what she says; everyone is self-conscious about something. It was also very funny. I love the comparison she made between one of her thighs and Aunt Clara from Bewitched. When she first mentioned the "aunties" she was just the type of little old lady I imagined. The sarcasm was well placed in just such a way as to show that she could be self-conscious but that she would not let her self-esteem drop.
I'm not sure if I have ever read anything by Anne Lamott before this, though her name did sound familiar, but I would like to read more from her. Her writing style is down to earth and easy to relate to.
